Job Requirements & Duties

  • Create landscape designs for farms and agricultural businesses to submit bids for contracts, and develop plans for residential projects
  • Use design software like AutoCAD to develop detailed visual plans
  • Obtain permits and ensure all designs comply with local regulations and environmental guidelines
  • Collaborate with construction teams to oversee the building and installation of landscapes
  • Schedule and coordinate team tasks to meet project deadlines efficiently 
  • Conduct final inspections and guide clients through the completed project to ensure satisfaction
  • Incorporate sustainable practices to protect soil, water, and local ecosystems in all designs and construction

Education & Training

  • A university degree in landscape architecture is usually required. Many employers also look for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
  • Additional training options include the Red Seal Horticulture Trade Program and the Canadian Landscape Horticulturist Technician Certification Program.
