Job Requirements & Duties

  • Plan and supervise research on agricultural policies, programs, and initiatives that support farmers and food systems
  • Provide advice and guidance to the public, farmers, and government staff about agricultural policies and programs
  • Lead committees to study successful agricultural programs and policies from other regions or countries
  • Create policy recommendations for government leaders and answer questions from the public, farmers, and experts
  • Work with different government departments to align agricultural policies with their goals and regulations
  • Spot challenges in Canada’s agriculture and food systems and develop solutions that benefit the economy, environment, and communities

Education & Training

  • A university degree in public policy, agriculture, economics, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees such as a master’s or PhD can be helpful for research-focused roles or senior positions.
