Job Requirements & Duties

  • Make sure the feedlot is safe for workers and animals, following all health and safety guidelines
  • Check on the health of animals daily and work with veterinarians if any issues arise
  • Manage the feedlot’s finances, including budgets, expenses, and cost of feed and supplies
  • Hire, train, and supervise staff, ensuring they handle animals carefully and follow proper care practices
  • Track animal growth and performance to make sure feeding plans are effective and animals are healthy
  • Plan daily, weekly, and monthly schedules for employees to keep the feedlot running efficiently
  • Coordinate with suppliers and veterinarians to maintain feed quality and animal health
  • Implement strategies to improve animal welfare, productivity, and overall farm sustainability

Education & Training

  • A formal degree is not required, but experience working with livestock and on farms is very important. Knowledge of animal care, feed management, and farm operations helps prepare for this role. A degree in Animal Science, Agribusiness, or a related field can also be helpful.
