Job Requirements & Duties

  • Support students in learning, exploring careers in agriculture or environmental fields, and developing personal and leadership skills
  • Observe and assess students’ skills and understanding during activities or projects and provide guidance and extra support where needed
  • Identify students’ strengths, interests, and areas for growth to help them reach their potential
  • Mentor students one-on-one or in small groups to build teamwork, problem-solving, and practical skills
  • Create safe and organized learning environments, whether indoors, outdoors, or on farms and community sites
  • Guide students in choosing programs, exploring agricultural or environmental careers, and setting personal goals

Education & Training

  • Educators typically need a bachelor’s degree in education, agriculture, environmental science, or a related field. To teach in schools, they must also hold a provincially recognized teaching certificate or license, which varies depending on the region where they work.
  • For higher-level teaching, such as at colleges or universities, a master’s or doctoral degree may be required. Non-traditional or outdoor education roles may not require formal certification.
