Job Requirements & Duties

  • Look at how things like weather, government rules, and markets affect agriculture
  • Study data to find trends and make predictions that help farmers and agribusinesses plan
  • Write reports that explain agriculture trends in a clear way for farmers and business owners
  • Use computer programs to make charts and models showing agriculture patterns
  • Give presentations about trends and predictions to farmers, farm companies, and other groups 
  • Explore less-studied areas of agriculture and plan research to learn more
  • Review farm and agribusiness plans and give advice to help them succeed
  • Meet with farmers, government officials, and companies that support agriculture

Education & Training

  • Usually a post-graduate degree like a Master’s or a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in agricultural economics is required, but some positions only require a university degree with some experience.
