Job Requirements & Duties

  • Auditing financial records for farms and agriculture businesses to make sure everything is correct
  • Reviewing accounts and preparing tax forms, including rules and deductions for agriculture 
  • Organizing and showing reports, budgets, and business plans to help farmers and agribusiness owners make decisions
  • Looking at financial data and business plans to find opportunities and risks in agriculture
  • Predicting financial risks by studying the economy, market trends, and prices for crops or livestock
  • Advising clients on money strategies and following the rules, including ways to manage resources carefully

Education & Training

  • A university degree in accounting or another business-related field is required for this position.
  • Some accountants become Certified Public Accountants (CPAs). To become a CPA, you must meet education and experience requirements and pass the Uniform CPA Exam. Earning a CPA certification can lead to more job opportunities and higher pay.
